A thought about corrupted Gems.
Look at this still frame of Garnet here.

When sending the bubbled failed fusion away, they morph into one singular Gem, which looks a lot like a Gem we’ve seen before.

Centipeetle’s a corrupted Gem and has a very similar Gem to the failed fusion from today’s episode.

It’s possible that corrupted Gems may actually be failed fusions that have reformed. Every Gem Monster that we’ve seen had a very uniquely-shaped Gem. Maybe some corrupted Gems are more stable than others depending on how many actual Gems are in the fusion itself (like Big Bird being comprised of a bunch of shards and relentlessly attacking while Centipeetle was understanding of Steven’s feelings).
The more the Gems within the fusion oppose each other, the more monstrous the final creature is, as shown here.

This is just a theory, but this could mean that either corruption comes from something related to fusion or that Centipeetle suffered a similar fate to the beast shown today.
Goddamn, I love this show.
