Gem Drill speculation
I feel that this scene is the Cluster itself trying to talk to Steven, each shard representing a different Gem that was shattered.
It’s kind of like Steven communicating with Lapis during his dream in Chille Tid.
I’ve only seen a few episodes of Steven Universe but I don’t trust Rose. It almost seems like she’s the new Dumbledore - the leader who everyone worships and loves a little too much and if you step back and look at it from a non-biased point-of-view, you realize that she’s done just as many controversial things as the enemy.
And honestly, wouldn’t it make such a great story if, after episode after episode of talking about how much they worshiped her, the Crystal Gems had to come to terms with the fact that their leader wasn’t that great? Think of how much that would crush the foundation of the show. Think of how much it would crush the characters. Think of how confusing that would be for Steven. It would be such an epic plot twist with so much potential. Rebecca Sugar, don’t fail me (the person who has seen all of four episodes) now!
