If there’s anything I can actually criticize the show for, it’s how they treat Garnet in newer episodes.
I guess because Estelle voices her, but I miss when she was more prominent in episodes. Episodes focused on Garnet herself usually turn out really good, too.
Last thing I'm gonna say about the Concrete controversy.
I understand that it upset people, and I know that people will continue to be upset, but we got two big, and in my opinion sincere, apologies out of this. We know now that Rebecca didn’t write the traits. Why would she lie? Ian’s handwriting looks closer to what was said rather than Rebecca’s. If you check out both Rebecca and Ian’s Instagrams, you’ll notice how different the handwriting is.
All in all, it was a huge mistake. It won’t be in future printings of the book, and I’m personally glad that both Lamar AND Rebecca addressed the situation. This won’t be forgotten, and I do understand that. Hopefully, nothing like this happens again.
So yeah, Lamar did draw Concrete. It was drawing first, writing second, but it’s satisfying to get an apology from Lamar himself about the whole thing. No idea who wrote the attributes. It DOES look like Sugar’s handwriting, but we don’t know for sure if it’s her.
also i think concrete has a cute design seeing it in color sorry guys
It seems to be Lamars drawing, he liked a fan art of concrete, and it looks exactly like his style. And I own a digital copy of the book, and it IS text first before the drawing. So it's very likely that Rebecca wrote the description then Lamar drew the picture. That's why I'm not stressing over it. It honestly didn't bother me in the first place. I'm black btw.
Yep, it seems like Lamar’s style. Thank you for letting me know it was text first! Then yeah, this feels much better. I appreciate so many people messaging me about Concrete and not being total asses about it. I do understand that people are upset over her, but in the end, it really does seem to be a bad mistake that hopefully the Crewniverse will address sometime from now until SDCC.
The drawing is only half of the problem. People are saying the writing looks exactly like Rebecca Sugar's. If she looked at that design and thought "Can't read :(," that was a pretty damn racist thing to do.
It was a game. Someone wrote the attributes down (most likely Sugar), and someone else in the crew drew how they thought Gem would look. I don’t think Rebecca herself drew Concrete. I think it was Lamar.
Do ya think that eventually blue will be on our side? With what the other diamonds did to pink?
Honestly, yes. She seems much sweeter than Yellow Diamond. I think that if she can talk one-on-one with Steven, without Yellow’s interruption, she’ll realize that there’s more to the story than she thinks.
What do you mean with "elaborate fakes"? I can remember seeing the fusion one on Coleman's Tumblr. I made a post in the SU Wiki about it like 2 years ago.
I think the one on the LEFT is a fake. I recently saw the Tumblr with the Jasper and Pearl, and I know that’s real. There hasn’t been a source for the left picture yet, though.
There’s something I never understood about the “White Diamond is a fusion” theory.
If White Diamond was a Diamond fusion, wouldn’t the Gems that make up the fusion still remain on her chest (and stomach if Pink was involved)? Why would it move to her head?
Every Gem is made for a purpose – to serve the order of the Diamonds. Those who cannot fit inside this order must be purged! To come out misshapen, to reshape yourself outside your purpose, and to defend this ruined, worthless planet is a disgrace!
So Pink turned into Rose and that likely turned her into a disgrace, falling away from her original purpose of being a Diamond, a leader of Homeworld. But still with that she couldn’t escape what she was made for, she was still a leader even as a Rose Quartz. Which eventually lead her into being Steven
Yellow calls humans disgusting yet for a fact we know Pink LOVED them and loved Earth. It seems like more than anything she’s just out to bash anything of Pink’s at any given moment.
In the concept art for Steven’s Dream it again shows Pink’s love for humans in Blue’s dialogue.
“Ah… She loved these.”
Rose was all about gems being able to change what they were made for. What better way to start the rebellion than showing that a Diamond of all gems could change? Pink wasn’t poofed or shattered when she stepped down from her palanquin, no, she changed. She changed into a Rose Quartz. And Yellow is disgusted with that and tries to cover it up.
What sort of message would that send to other gems, especially to the other Diamond who was so, so close to Pink? Homeworld would fall apart.
Pink Diamond never refers to herself again as Pink Diamond, only going by Rose Quartz. Why would Pink only have one colony? She doesn’t want to be a Diamond.
She doesn’t want to conquer and destroy, she LOVED Earth and wanted to save it. Pink becoming Rose would have been the ultimate message to show that Homeworld is wrong, and it’s good to be whoever you want. But no, Yellow couldn’t have that. She covered it up as soon as she could, viewing Pink and the entire rebellion as a disgrace and as something that needed to be destroyed.
Pink was never shattered, it was a cover-up from Yellow, being disgusted with her change and likely in fear that Blue would leave and change, too.
And honestly, I think that’s the ultimate message. Don’t be what your family and other people want you to be, be yourself, who YOU want to be.
This is actually a really good take on the “Rose is Pink Diamond” theory!
an extended version of “we are the crystal gems” at the end of the series with every gem throughout the series being shown and padparadscha sapphire going “WE” when she’s on-screen
After rewatching The Trial, I realized that the compliments given to the Diamonds are based on their light and gemstone.
Like, the words lustrous, luminous, radiant, glimmering, brilliant, and opulent are all used. Outside of “opulent”, all of these can easily be used to describe an actual gemstone, like a “brilliant” cut.
OMG! Do you think that the pearl thar makes up Rhodonite, is PINK DIAMONDS PEARL? Maybe when Pink died, Pink pearl was left to die away. And the Ruby helped her to get ober her feelings of loneliness. Just a mini theory lol
While the Pearl and Ruby had pinkish colors, I don’t think that it’s THE Pearl that belonged to Pink. I think she was just a Pearl assigned to Morganite.
The reason Fluorite talks so slowly is because it’s a fusion comprised of around six Gems, so it takes a while for them all to process what they want to say.
