Jasper was the one that was desperate for Lapis to fuse in the first place, yes, but Lapis CONTINUED to hold Jasper down as Malachite. The question is, why? She was surrounded by water anyway, so if they were to ever break free, Lapis could just easily destroy her. Jasper was by no means “sweet” to Lapis during their time as Malachite, but Lapis flat-out admitted that she liked taking things out on Jasper, even mentioning earlier that she “missed” Jasper. She took her anger from the past out on Jasper by KEEPING them as Malachite. Again, if Jasper were to break free, Lapis could just easily poof Jasper at that point, as they’re so far out in the ocean and they’re surrounded by water. It’s more along the lines of Jasper starting it and Lapis continuing it. Now Jasper is desperate to become Malachite again for power. She LOVED being with Lapis because she felt that only she could handle Lapis’ “power”. Lapis, of course, realizes that they should never fuse again and says in a concerned tone, “No!”. It really is great character development for her. While Lapis liked being Malachite after a while, she’s trying to break free of it so she can’t hurt Jasper anymore. Jasper is too deep into it and WANTS to fuse again because not only is she used to it, but it gave her a huge surge of power, kind of like Pearl and Garnet becoming Sardonyx.
They were both wrong, and the way the situation was handled was great. It’s been said before, but the ending of Alone at Sea is the perfect way to describe an abusive relationship to younger viewers.
Also, Gem Harvest, Tiger Philanthropist, and Last One Out of Beach City don’t have dates yet.

I mean besides being BTFO in 3 minutes and being a total ass to Steven, she got like how Pearl did in Cry for Help. She probably never fused before, even during the war. That, or she hasn’t had that surge of power in a really long time besides Malachite. She got addicted to being really powerful. Her calling Lapis a “monster” felt more like a compliment from her than an insult. She actually likes Lapis because of her power. Lapis missed Jasper because she was the only thing she could take her anger out on. They were never meant to be for each other, but from this experience, Jasper’s even more power-hungry, probably because of how strict things were on Homeworld and being bound to Lapis as Malachite for so long. It’s the absolute definition of an abusive relationship.
“We could fly!” also implies that Jasper just got sheer enjoyment out of being Malachite because she could do whatever she wants. She had actual freedom outside of Yellow Diamond’s strict rules. It wasn’t necessarily “good” freedom, but maybe that can change in the future whenever she returns from being punched a mile back into the ocean.
Not sure if that’s intentional or not, but she gets like, 3 minutes of screentime just to disappear again.
It feels like a running gag.
Do you think Steven can enter the mind of a corrupted Gem and “fix” it, like he was able to do with Kiki’s nightmares? Maybe Rose wasn’t able to even get this far because not only are her emotions not as well-maintained as Steven’s, but she never sleeps.

Omg, I go into the Mr. Greg tags for five minutes and I find out that people are shipping Greg and Pearl?! Sigh. I know there’s going to be a lot of Discourse TM about this, but seriously I dislike that people are jumping on this. It’s frustrating when there’s all kinds of overt stuff about Rose and Pearl and people are like nooo she’s very loyal, it’s a mentoring relationship when Pearl is clearly in love with Rose. And then Greg and Pearl dance together one time and everybody’s like THEY ARE IN LOVE. The heteronormativity is strong with this one.
I’ve liked Greg and Pearl for a while now, honestly. Clearly, they aren’t in love with each other. It would be nice to see them bond more in the future and maybe even fall in love one day. They’re both great parents to Steven.
I wouldn’t just immediately say they’re in love right now, but Mr. Greg definitely shows that they’re no longer on bad terms, which is a good thing. I’ve been waiting for that for a while.
I love that they are getting along better and think they would be awesome as friends and it would be great to see them coparenting Steven. But romantic relationship, no no no. It’s not just this one instance, it’s annoying because this always happens. It takes the smallest thing to prompt a wave of enthusiasm for a m/f ship and you have to fight tooth and nail to get people to acknowledge canon f/f ships.
Oh no, I don’t believe that Greg and Pearl have ANY romantic feelings for each other after Mr. Greg, I’m just glad they’re on better terms. Sorry if I came off like I’m forcing my opinion.
